Dive. Learn. Explore.
I’m Keith Derington—a PADI Divemaster and Instructor Candidate based in the Houston area. ScubaKeith is where I’ll share my journey in diving, education, and the places the ocean takes me.
More is coming after I complete my instructor certification.
About Keith
My fascination with diving started long before I ever put on a mask. As a kid, I saw Jaws—and instead of keeping me out of the water, it made me want to explore it. I dreamed of becoming a scuba diver and seeing the world beneath the surface for myself.
I earned my Open Water certification in 2002 and have been pursuing that dream ever since. My diving has taken me from the Maldives to Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, Grand Cayman, Jamaica—including Ocho Rios and Negril—and Palm Beach, Florida. I also enjoy freshwater springs and have logged extensive lake dives across Texas.
Today, I am affiliated with Sugar Land Dive Center, where I assist with classes in both the pool and the lake. I am a DAN Emergency First Response Instructor and a PADI Instructor Candidate, continuing the path from passionate diver to dive professional.
My PADI certifications include Open Water Diver, Advanced Open Water Diver, Rescue Diver, Divemaster, Enriched Air Nitrox, Peak Performance Buoyancy, and Lionfish Hunter. I care deeply about the health of our oceans, responsible diving, and conservation—and I believe the diving community can be a powerful force for protecting the places we love to explore.
Outside the water, I’m passionate about business, especially the business of diving: the dive shops, instructors, travel partners, and small brands that help bring people into this incredible world. And when I’m home, you’ll usually find me with my wife, Kim, and our very full house of rescued animals.
What’s Coming
ScubaKeith is the beginning of a bigger dive-focused journey. As I complete my instructor certification, this site will grow into a place to share the experiences, people, and places that keep me inspired to dive.
In time, ScubaKeith will offer personalized private scuba instruction and thoughtfully planned dive trips—built around confidence, safety, fun, and a genuine connection to the underwater world.
You’ll also find diving stories, training insights, conservation-minded ideas, and travel along the way, along with a closer look at the business and community behind the sport we love.
For now, I’m focused on becoming the best dive professional I can be. The next chapter is just below the surface.
